Abstract
This article explores the genetic changes across generations observed in sessile oak since the end of the 17th century. It reveals genetic evolution at the genomic and phenomic levels, as well as highly integrated traits linked to fitness (growth, phenology, specific leaf area). Going beyond the estimation of temporal genetic variations, this paper also seeks to identify the mechanisms that stimulate and facilitate their accumulation in order to draw conclusions that will help the forestry sector adapt to today’s changing climate.
Highlights
- The results of genetic monitoring across generations of sessile oak highlight rapid and fluctuating genetic evolution in response to climate change.
- They indicate that this adaptive evolution could be facilitated by forestry operations during the natural regeneration of oak forests.
